PortAventura World has secured a licence to construct a photovoltaic plant in a tourist destination in Spain.
The project, called PortAventura Solar, will be the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plant in a holiday resort in the country and one of the largest in Europe.

Endesa X is in charge of designing and building the project.
PortAventura Solar is expected to feature 11,102 ground-mounted solar panels across an area of 6.4 hectares, comparable to 9 football fields, within the resort.
With a power of 6.05 megawatts peak (MWp), the plant will produce 10 GWh per year of clean electricity. The facility will meet almost a third of PortAventura World energy requirements.
The project is aligned with the firm’s current commitment to ESG and decarbonisation. It will involve an investment of approximately €5m.

By GlobalDataPortAventura World general manager Fernando Aldecoa said: “This photovoltaic plant is, without a doubt, the major project for 2022, not only in terms of investment, but also from the standpoint of our global corporate responsibility strategy guiding the company’s decision-making, as we seek to continue to be a benchmark in sustainable tourism.”
PortAventura World director of sustainability Choni Fernández said: “We are committed to sustainability, and the installation of this plant is a priority for our company. PortAventura Solar will help us take an additional step on the road to making our resort even more sustainable and self-powered.”
