Norrköpings Hamn, the company managing the Pampus Port, has selected Peab for the extension of the port on Händel Island in Norrköping, Sweden.

Under the contract worth SEK345m ($38.2m), Peab will build a new 310m platform dock on piles, a 60m long heavy-lift dock and a new port area where goods can be stored.

The project also includes laying new pipes for water and sewage and supplementary tonguing of harbour basin to achieve the right depth for ship traffic everywhere in the harbour basin.

Materials needed for the project will be supplied from a nearby property of Norrköpings Hamn, where Peab aims to prepare backfill materials for the port’s extension.

Peab region manager Berth Larsson said: “We look forward to being part of developing Pampus Port. We are a local community builder and one factor for success is that we cooperate internally over several business areas. This ensures that we have the right resources and competence throughout the project.”

Construction on the port extension will begin in September this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Norrköping Port is a full service port handling products that are primarily forest, steel grain, energy and petroleum products, containers and project loads from Swedish industries.

Recently, Peab had secured a contract worth SEK328m ($36.3m) from Trelleborgs Hamn to build two new ferry berths including ramps and a side ramp the existing ferry berth in the Port of Trelleborg.
