Nordic community builder Peab has secured a turnkey contract to renovate and extend the Stora kontoret office building in Oxelösund, Sweden.

The Skr160m ($15.06m) contract was awarded by steel company SSAB

This project is said to be one of the largest office building renovations in the region.

Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: “We’re very happy to have received the project of renovating and extending the office building for SSAB in Oxelösund.

“We have solid experience from similar projects and look forward to this project with its fine architecture.”

The development entails the renovation of the office building to cover an area of approximately 9,000m² and accommodate a workforce of 300 people.

The renovation is expected to cut carbon emissions with the installation of solar panels on the roof, conservation of drinking water, and reduced energy consumption.

This aligns with SSAB’s aim to create a sustainable workplace, with a focus on reducing climate impact.

SSAB Oxelösund HR manager Maria Lantz said: “This will be a modern work environment with activity-based workstations, which means that there will be different types of work environments to use depending on what you want to do.

“The office building will gather together competence, which will enable us in the SSAB family to support each other. It should be inspiring and fun to go to work.”

The project is currently underway, with completion anticipated in early 2025.

Peab will register the order in the first quarter of this year.

This comes after the company received a contract to construct a new assisted-living development in Åmål, Sweden, last week.

Åmål Municipality awarded the Skr220m contract.
