Peab has secured a contract to construct a new 122m dock and dredge the harbour basin at the Port of Oxelösund, a significant step towards modernising the port’s infrastructure and increasing its capacity for sustainable transportation.

The contract, valued at Skr137m, will allow the port to accommodate larger vessels, thereby reducing carbon emissions through efficient logistics solutions.

The project, commissioned by Oxelösunds Hamn AB, involves building the new dock, known as Berth 8, and dredging the harbour basin to improve the port’s logistics capabilities.

The expansion will also involve the stabilisation and reuse of dredged materials.

Peab region manager Carl Johan Söderberg expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: “We’ll have the opportunity to utilise all our expertise in civil engineering in this technical marine project while contributing to an important function for the community.”

Port of Oxelösund technical manager Jens Jacobsen said: “With this investment we’re creating another ship berth, which will give us the capacity we need to be part of enabling the steel industry’s climate transition and the port’s organic growth.

“We look forward to working well together with Peab and we value their extensive experience in the marine field.”

The project is set to begin in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by early 2027. It will be registered in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

This week, Peab was commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to rebuild Highway 27, a project valued at Skr238m.

This initiative aims to reroute the road for increased traffic safety and accessibility.

Peab region manager Göran Wiking said: “At Peab we’re proud that we’ve been entrusted with improving the infrastructure of our roads. Just like in the other roads we’re rebuilding we’ll use products like Peab’s ECO-Asfalt to reduce climate impact.”

Planning for the Highway 27 project will begin immediately, with work starting in August 2025 and completion expected in October 2027.

In January 2023, Peab was contracted by the Swedish Transport Administration to redevelop Highway 27.

Works on the project are expected to be completed in Q2 2025.
