Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has revealed the first look at Westmead Health Precinct’s $460m Integrated Mental Health Complex.

This new facility in Western Sydney will offer mental health care to the people of the state.

The campus will be able to house a mental health care service with critical mental health beds for adolescents, adults and elderly people.

Additionally, the complex will deliver high dependency and intensive care units, a mental health valuation area, sub and non-acute mental health beds, along with ambulatory and outpatient services.

Western Sydney Local Health District chief executive Graeme Loy said: “The new Integrated Mental Health Complex will deliver the State’s biggest transformation of mental health services and will ensure our diverse communities have access to world-class mental health care.

“The complex at the Westmead Health Precinct will replace existing mental health facilities at the Cumberland Hospital and provide better integration with other mental health and clinical services already located at Westmead.

“Designs for the ten-storey building, shaped like a ‘helping hand’, showcase the modern facilities patients and their families will benefit from, providing treatment and care within a calm, peaceful and therapeutic environment that supports their journey to recovery.”

The complex has been designed to increase views of greenery.

It will also provide a connection to Westmead Hospital’s Central Acute Services Building.

The facility also has enough natural light and features indoor and outdoor areas that are designed beautifully, sensory and activity spaces and artwork.

The new mental health facility is slated for completion by 2026.
