Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has unveiled the first images of the design for Beijing’s new airport terminal building in China.
Planned to be built in Daxing, Beijing, the airport has been designed in collaboration with ADP Ingeniérie (ADPI) and is set to initially handle 45 million passengers a year, eventually rising to 72 million.

The airport will span a 700,000m² area, featuring a 5km-long facade and 82 aircraft stands.
The terminal will have direct links to local and national rail services and will feature an integrated multi-modal transport centre.
Following the international competition bid in 2011, the Beijing New Airport Headquarters (BNAH) selected ADPI and Zaha Hadid Architects.
The consortium also includes Buro Happold, Mott Macdonald and EC Harris, and created a joint design team in October 2014 to collaborate on the design for the airport building.
Serving the growing aviation sector, the new airport will enable further connections between Beijing and cultural, economic and civic centres worldwide.
The new terminal will operate in various configurations dependant on changing aircraft and passenger traffic throughout each day.
The Local Design Institute team is leading the project under the leadership of BNAH.
According to ZHA, the joint design team scheme integrates principles that ADPI and the ZHA originally developed during the competition phase.
