sheffield student accomodation

Sheffield City Council in the UK has granted planning permission to Crosslane Student Developments, a unit under the Crosslane Group, for a £32m student accomodation scheme in the city.

The scheme will be built in the St Vincent’s Quarter of Sheffield, which is currently undergoing regeneration.

St Vincent’s Quarter regeneration project involves redevelopment of a site on Scotland Street into a 437-bed, new-build, premium student accommodation property.

The site sits opposite the new engineering department of the University of Sheffield, which is expected to attract new students to the locality.

Planning for the regeneration includes student accommodation development with three new residential blocks of six, seven and eight storeys, with each featuring a green ‘living’ roof.

"The increase in student population will benefit local businesses and contribute to regeneration of the St Vincent’s Quarter."

Designed to be a high-specification brick and glass construction, the buildings will have 144 studios and 293 ensuite cluster flats, along with a common room, private study room, meeting hubs, gym, and a large, landscaped internal courtyard.

Crosslane’s Prime Student Living will operate the student accommodation facility, once developed.

Crosslane intends to start construction works for the project in November in order to finish in time for the 2017 / 2018 academic year.

Knight Frank Planning in Sheffield was the advisor for the developer and acted on its behalf during the planning process. Manchester’s DAY Architectural had co-ordinated with Knight Frank for the planning.

Knight Frank Planning team in Sheffield member Sophie Taylor said: "This development will contribute to the creation of a sustainable local community, securing a long-term, viable use for the site.

"The increase in student population will benefit local businesses and contribute to regeneration of the St Vincent’s Quarter. Residential developments like this are the cornerstones to regeneration and will in turn attract other retail and leisure uses."
