Hudson Yards

A section part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, Otis, has signed an agreement to supply elevator and escalator units for the new Hudson Yards development in Manhattan’s West Side in New York City.

Under the terms of the contract, Otis will provide 73 units for 30 Hudson Yards, a 92-storey, 2.6 million ft² tower, which is being developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group.

Being built over a functioning railroad system, the 28-acre Hudson Yards complex will offer more than 17 million ft² of office, retail, residential and hotel space.

The office tower would be supplied with 56 Otis Skyrise elevators, 11 NCE energy-efficient, environmentally responsible escalator systems, five hydraulic elevators, as well as one geared freight elevator, as part of the agreement.

The lifts will use the company’s CompassPlus destination management system, which organises passenger travel to provide an efficient experience, improved traffic flow and energy savings.

"Our high-performing equipment…combines a superior passenger experience with green technology."

Related Companies senior vice-president of construction Emad Lotfalla said: "Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States.

"It will transform the landscape of Manhattan’s west side into a thriving commercial and residential center built atop of one of the world’s busiest railroad yards."

Otis Americas president Tom Vining said: "We are working closely with project stakeholders to ensure that everyone who visits, works or lives at Hudson Yards benefits from our high-performing equipment that combines a superior passenger experience with green technology."

According to Otis, onsite elevator and escalator work will start in the first half of 2016.
