Macy’s is planning a $400m, four-year renovation of its flagship store at Herald Square in Manhattan, New York, US.

The renovation project will expand the selling floor from 100,000ft2 to 1.2 million ft2 by relocating some offices and clearing out some stockrooms in the Broadway Building.

The current Louis Vuitton shop will be enlarged to multiple floors that will house luxury goods.

The regenerated department store will feature 22 restaurants and food service areas, including a second-floor coffee, wine and chocolate bar.

Construction work will begin in early spring 2012 and continue, in phases, until autumn 2015.
