LMN Architects has opened the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) in the US state of Washington.

Spread over an area of 46,013ft², the PAEC was built at a cost of $32.7m to cater to both public and private needs.

The multi-functional centre houses a multi-purpose performing arts theatre that has a regional conference centre and enough space to accommodate 716 people.

It has been designed to accommodate theatrical, musical, dance, artistic, and spoken-word performances.

The auditorium and the adjacent 8,000ft² event facilities can hold conferences, seminars, meetings, and other assembly events.

The PAEC also includes a catering kitchen and other support facilities.

LMN Architects AIA partner Wendy Pautz said: "This project is about integrating and connecting with the community, catalyzing activity in and around the building, and focusing new energy to positively impact the public realm.

"With the transformative power of the arts, we are creating a civic asset that supports the cultural, social, and economic aspirations of the community – a place that will become essential to those who live here."

The centre provides pedestrian connectivity to surrounding uses, as well as new public gathering areas.

The building is divided into horizontal bands by using metal panels in three different textures and four distinct colours.

In addition to LMN Architects, the project involved City of Federal Way, Lorax Partners, Garco Construction, Jaffe Holden and Hewitt, and several others.

LMN Architects was selected to design the new Ocean Pavilion for the Seattle Aquarium earlier this year.
