Global engineering, architecture and construction company Jacobs Engineering Group has been selected to serve as an executive architect and engineer for the proposed $1.6bn Wynn Resorts development in Everett, Massachusetts, US.

A local team of architects and engineers has been contracted by Jacobs to undertake the assignment, which will see a former industrial site on the Everett waterfront converted into a luxury Wynn Everett casino complex.

"[We] are excited about the opportunity to bring our experience to this fast-paced and technically demanding urban mixed-use project."

The company will lead the team and the resort will be designed to echo grand hotels of the past, according to Jacobs.

Located on the banks of the Mystic River and neighbouring Boston Harbor, the proposed 3.3 million ft² casino complex will feature a 24-storey, luxury hotel, casino, conference facilities, high-end restaurants and a spa.

Other features include shops, underground parking, a central utility plant, as well as extensive landscaping with a riverside walk.

With construction slated to begin later this year, opening of the resort is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2018.

Jacobs Group vice-president Tom McDuffie stated: "We are pleased to work with the Wynn team and are excited about the opportunity to bring our experience to this fast-paced and technically demanding urban mixed-use project."

Jacobs Engineering has not disclosed the contract value.
