The council of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England has selected Henry Boot as its prime contractor for its £100m Better Barnsley town centre redevelopment scheme.
The Barnsley council has also chosen Turner & Townsend and its partner Queensberry Real Estate as the development management organisation (DMO) for the project, reports Construction Enquirer.

Under the scheme, Henry Boot will construct retail, leisure and market space, which includes spaces for food and drink, a new library and a market square, after the pulling down the existing buildings.
The total Better Barnsley scheme also includes addition of enhanced public areas and a new college building.
The DMO along with the Council is planning to work over a period of 18 months to prepare the design of the new leisure and retail building, following which the pre-letting to retail and leisure operators will begin.
Both the DMO and Council will work together to obtain private sector investment to construct the second phase of the scheme.
Barnsley place cabinet spokesperson Cllr Roy Miller said: "This is a major milestone in our exciting and ambitious plans to make Barnsley town centre a place for people to visit and for businesses to invest in.
"This partnership with a DMO presents the council with the best opportunity to secure not only the successful development of phase two of the Better Barnsley scheme, but also private sector investment into the scheme, along with the realisation of the council’s potential future return on investment."
During the phase one of Better Barnsley scheme, nearly 200,000ft² of new retail and leisure space will be created.
