GE has broken ground on the expansion of its inspection technologies headquarters in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, US, to meet demand for industrial and infrastructure inspection technology solutions.

Under the $10m expansion the company will build a new global customer applications centre as well as a non-destructive testing academy for GE employees and customers.

The company has appointed RAL Architecture + Design as the architectural designer for the 52,000ft2 expansion project, which will increase the facility’s floor space by more than 63%.

The expansion project is scheduled to be completed in 2012 and is expected to create more than 100 local construction jobs.
