The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) in Qatar has unveiled the design for Al Thumama Stadium, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Designed by Arab Engineering Bureau chief architect Ibrahim Jaidah, the stadium is inspired by the ‘ghafiya’ headdress.

SC secretary general Hassan Al Thawadi said: “Our vision with this World Cup was always to complement and assist in developing local talent, and shed a light on local industry.”
Set to be built on pitches currently used by the Qatar Football Association, the Al Thumama Stadium will accommodate 40,000 fans in 2022.
Construction work has already started and is set for completion in 2020.
A joint-venture between Qatari company Al Jaber Engineering and Turkey’s Tekfen Construction is serving as the main contractor.

“It is an arena that symbolises Qatar’s youth and its emergence as a major player on the global sporting scene, ready to welcome the world in 2022.”
Fans will be able to access the stadium through dedicated bus services from a nearby metro stop.
The stadium will feature new cooling technology and accessibility facilities.
After the tournament, it will convert into a 20,000-seater stadium, including handball, tennis and swimming facilities, as well as a boutique hotel and branch of Aspetar Sports Clinics.
