UK-based property development company British Land has received approval from the planning committee for a £300m extension of Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, UK.
The extension will feature a 330,000ft² Leisure Hall for the centre’s 24 million annual visitors.
Planned to be integrated with the front of the Meadowhall centre, the extension will see new dining, cinema, café, gym, open-air terrace, leisure space, and event and entertainment options.
The new additions follow an ongoing £60m renovation that is expected to be completed before December.
British Land Retail, Leisure and Residential head Charles Maudsley said: “We are delighted with the planning committee’s decision and will now work with our partners and other stakeholders over the coming months on the detail of the Leisure Hall to ensure Meadowhall delivers the maximum benefits for customers, retailers and the wider Sheffield city region.
“The refurbishment completing later this year, our continued leasing success, significant store investment by retailers, and the Leisure Hall proposals are all significant steps in the centre’s continued evolution.”
