Property developer Akademiska Hus has selected Cowi to help develop the Albano Campus in Stockholm, Sweden.

The campus is being developed as a scientific hub for more than 15,000 students and researchers, and designed to include a total of 150,000m² university and higher education premises.

Of the total premises area, 50,000m² will be allocated for the accommodation of students and researchers.

Cowi will be responsible for system management planning for construction work, foundations, and basement planning for three of the four buildings.

It will also be in charge of the geotechnology used during planning of the buildings, streets and conduits.

The project aims to connect the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University and create an educational and research environment hub.

The buildings will feature green roofs and large green terraces to allow integration into the surrounding park landscape.

Cowi building and real estate division head Håkan Adelwald said: “The assignment is challenging in terms of the complex geometry of the buildings and the heavy constructions that need to freely span large lecture halls and teaching rooms.

"This kind of complex city development project fully reflects our ambition to offer the kind of competence that is required to add value to projects."
