Lincoln Avenue Communities has appointed McShane Construction Company to construct Canyons, a new affordable housing development in Madison, Wisconsin, US. 

Knothe & Bruce Architects is serving as the architect. 

Canyons represents one of two affordable housing projects that McShane Construction is currently developing for Lincoln Avenue Communities in Madison. 

The other is The Derby Apartments development with 70 units. 

McShane Construction Wisconsin Market director Alison Gorham said: “We’re excited to partner with Lincoln Avenue Communities on another project. 

“Canyons will help address the nationwide shortage of affordable housing by providing high-quality homes for low-income households, and it’s an honour to be part of this effort.”

Situated on a 1.12 acre site, Canyons will rise four stories high, featuring 60 units. 

The units will include a combination of luxury vinyl-tile and carpet flooring, granite countertops, along with stainless-steel appliances. 

The property will also include 3,750ft² of amenity space, comprising a fitness centre, mail room, laundry room and club room. 

It will have a wood frame construction above a concrete parking garage.  

The design of the building’s exterior will be a blend of Hardie fibre-cement siding and masonry brick veneer. 

It will have a solar panel system on the roof, intended to reduce electricity costs for the building’s common areas. 

It furthers aims to achieve Wisconsin Green Built Homes Gold Certification and EnergyStar Multifamily Certification.  

Completion of the development is anticipated in June 2025.  

The latest move comes after McShane Construction was commissioned by Redwood Living to construct a new residential community in Crystal Lake, Illinois, in February 2024. 

Redwood Crystal Lake residential community will consist of 124 single-storey apartments spread across 25 townhome buildings with four to six units each.
