Marquette University has announced that the renovation and construction of the reimagined Wellness + Recreation facility at the existing location of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium and Recreation Center (Rec Center) located on the southwestern edge of campus will begin later this month.

The 180,000ft2 Wellness + Recreation facility will combine the campus fitness and recreation facilities with the Counseling Center and the Marquette University Medical Clinic. This will centralise the student services which are now dispersed across the campus.

It will provide a new destination on campus which supports both the physical and mental health requirements of the Marquette community.

Marquette University will provide funding for the new facility through a combination of philanthropy, external partnerships, and university capital.

It stated that the Rec Center will remain closed during the project.

The interim spaces in the campus will be available at several campus locations for recreation, fitness, and club sports, at the start of the spring 2023 semester.

In January 2020, Marquette University announced plans to construct a new home for the university’s College of Business Administration as well as its innovation leadership programmes, with $70m investment.

The new facility was designed to include upgraded signature labs and classrooms, including a pitch stage, that allowed business students to share ideas with industry, investors, and the larger community.

It also featured a new multi-functional space to provide access to executives and recruiters to meet and interact, as well as wrap-around advising and career guidance, with centres for career development on the ground floor.
