L&T begins work on 120MW Lower Kopili hydropower project in India

L&T Construction’s Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business has started work on the120MW Lower Kopili hydropower project in Assam, India.

The work forms part of a contract, whereby L&T Construction will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of project infrastructure, civil and hydro-mechanical works. The client is Assam Power Generation Corporation.

The scope of the contract involves the construction of all components of the hydropower project. It includes roads, 65m high concrete gravity dam, power intakes, surface powerhouse and a 3.6km-long headrace tunnel.

L&T said that the contract will be valued between INR10bn ($133.6m) and INR25bn ($334m).

Separately, L&T said its construction arm has been awarded contracts for its diverse businesses.

The Water & Effluent Treatment business of L&T Construction was selected by the Chandigarh Smart City (CSCL) to design, build and operate a 136MLD sewage treatment plant in Chandigarh, Punjab.

Under the contract, Water & Effluent Treatment business will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and generation of power from biogas.

Moreover, the Buildings & Factories business of L&T Construction has secured a contract from an undisclosed government organisation in Oman to develop the infrastructure & utilities for a mixed-use facility at Muscat.

L&T’s Public Space Business Unit has signed a contract to design and build a nine-storey IB School building by RP - SanjeevGoenka Group.

IRCON International has awarded a contract to L&T GeoStructure to build a viaduct substructure up to pier cap level, for about 3km as part of the Agartala-Akhaura New Rail Link Project at Agartala, Tripura.

L&T said its Power Transmission & Distribution Business has been awarded a contract by Power Grid Corporation of India to establish certain transmission links for the strengthening of the 400kV system in the Eastern Region.

The Power Transmission & Distribution Business was also selected to design, supply, install, test and commission a 220kV transmission line in Tanzania.
