Eiffage Construction has been selected as the general contractor to undertake the renovation programme of the Le Star cinema in Cannes, France.

Situated at 98 Rue d’Antibes, Le Star was established in 1913 but has remained closed since January 2016.

The four-screen theatre is said to be one of the city’s oldest cinemas.

The project, which encountered several delays, is set to commence this month and will revitalise the venue, incorporating modern infrastructure while maintaining its architectural legacy.

Starimmo, the owner of the cinema, is the client and architect Pierre CHICAN will be in charge of project management. Cannes Town Hall was involved in this private project.

Eiffage says it is committed to preserving the cinema’s historical facade, particularly the section facing the pedestrian street, which will feature a new store.

The renovation will include the improvement of the building’s south facade and modernisation of its auditoriums.

Additionally, new commercial spaces will be created on the ground floor.

The project will introduce four contemporary screening rooms with a combined seating capacity of 539 on a surface area of 1,000m².

These facilities are designed to host events such as debates and meetings during the Cannes International Film Festival.

The project is expected to reach completion in the second half (H2) of 2025.

This move comes after Eiffage received a contract to carry out renovation works of the Cristallis project in Paris’ ninth district, France.

In addition, the business, in collaboration with eight architectural companies, received a €2.54bn ($2.76bn) design-and-build contract for a section of the Grand Paris Express line 15.
