Construction services provider Kier Group has been selected to deliver a £59m major infrastructure project in Sellafield, UK.

The project has been awarded to the company through the Programme and Project Partners model that supports the Sellafield mission.

Sellafield is a large multi-function nuclear power site located near Seascale on the coast of Cumbria, England.

Kier said that the PPP is a 20-year partnership, which was established by Sellafield Ltd through contracts with Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR), Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Doosan Babcock last year.

The scope of work on the project will include the construction of the seismically designed reinforced concrete structure that will serve as an annex to an existing facility.

It will also include the formwork, reinforcement and concreting, along with the installation of lattice girder roof trusses.

Kier Infrastructure group managing director Mark Pengelly said: “We’re pleased to have been appointed to this project, which we have been awarded on the basis of our proven delivery capability in the nuclear environment.

“The team has also shown a demonstrable commitment to working with the PPP members to ensure this key scheme can be delivered safely, to quality and on budget, supporting the PPP values and long-term strategy.”

The company has planned to complete the majority of the works in autumn 2023.

Since 1981, Kier has delivered more than 70 projects at Sellafield valued at £350m.

Recently, the company announced that it has set a target to complete work on its Highways England project M6 13-15 motorway upgrade work six months earlier than the scheduled date.
