The UK Department for Education (DfE), Ambitions Academies Trust, and construction company Kier have announced the start of construction at the 900-place Oak Academy in Bournemouth, England, UK.

The existing buildings at the site will be replaced with a new building and campus design as part of the process.

This new design will include a range of learning zones such as science and technology classrooms, as well as enhanced facilities for sport, music, drama, and special educational needs and disabilities assistance.

Kier Construction Southern regional director Cheryl Parsons said: “We are proud to mark the start of works on site at Oak Academy which will deliver improved, sustainable facilities for students, staff, and the community.

“We look forward to using our wealth of education sector experience to deliver this first-class facility which will have a positive impact on the next generation of talent and the wider community.”

Earlier in August this year, Kier received the contract from the DfE to redevelop Oak Academy in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Oak Academy is part of the aforementioned Ambitions Academies Trust, which serves schools in and around the Bournemouth and Weymouth areas.

Following the DfE’s latest output specification standards, the school will be net-zero carbon in operation and thermally efficient with the implementation of air-source heat pump technology and a full roof containing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Ambitions Academies Trust Education national leader and CEO Sian Thomas said: “We are all excited that Oak Academy will have a new school with such superb facilities. Ensuring that future generations will have a great school in which to thrive is so important and means a lot to the whole community.”
