Waterford City and County Council in Ireland has announced that Waterford North Quays Project secured €110.6m in financing.

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) has approved €80.6m funding for the project while the remaining €30m will be provided by the Department of Transport, through the National Transport Authority.

The development of the North Quays SDZ project will include a 200-room Four Star Hotel & Conference Centre, 15,000m2 prime office space, 300 riverside apartments, underground car parking and amenity facilities.

It will include an integrated transport hub, construction of a modern new train station, bus and car parking facilities that will provide direct access to the North Quays development, Dock Road, Waterford / Kilkenny Greenways and transport corridors.

The funding will support the construction of a new bridge that will create a direct connection from Barronstrand Street through a new southern public plaza at the Clock Tower and connectivity through more sustainable modes of transport to the North Quays development.

Ireland Transport, Environment, Climate and Communications minister and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan TD said: “The funding I am making available will support the development of the new sustainable transport bridge across the River Suir to link up the North and South Quays, providing access for cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users.
