UK-based construction firm Higgins has secured a £22m contract from Brent Council in the UK for housing redevelopment of Hillside and Milton Avenue sites.

The two sites are part of Stonebridge masterplan, to strengthen and improve community amenities and to enrich the local environment.

As part of the redevelopment plan, Higgins will design and build 73 mixed-tenure new homes and one retail unit with new public open spaces to link the two sites.

While the Hillside site will include 51 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in up to seven storeys in two blocks, the Milton Avenue site is expected to feature twenty two-, four-bedroom, three-storey townhouses.

At the Hillside site, a ground-level undercroft car park with 22 spaces and a landscaped podium on the first-floor level will be built, linking the two blocks.

The new public open space will feature hard and soft landscaping with a new playground and outdoor gym included and a series of bridges over the existing canal feeder running through the two sites.

Higgins managing director Steve Leakey said: “We are very pleased to be part of this exciting masterplan for Stonebridge and work with Brent Council to bring these brand new high-quality homes to the area. We look forward to starting on site in the coming months.”

Councillor Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt said: “We are looking forward to working with Higgins on this exciting mixed-use development of 73 much-needed purpose-built homes for the residents of Stonebridge.

“We have an ambitious target to deliver 5,000 affordable homes including 1,000 council homes.

Our goal is to provide affordable and high-quality homes across Brent.”

Last month, Higgins was selected by Sanctuary Housing Association’s Sanctuary Homes to design and build 120 new homes off Borrow Hall Road in Great Wakering, Southend-on-Sea.

The new homes will include 110 houses and a range of apartments of different size and tenure to help meet local needs.
