US-based Granite Construction has won a subcontract worth $18m from Swinerton for the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Kresge College Work Package #4.

The latest order is Granite’s second projects as a part of UCSC’s multi-year Kresge College Renewal Project. The contract will be booked in Granite's fourth-quarter 2020 backlog.
The scope of the work in Project #4 will include the construction of the retaining walls around four new buildings, including the relocation of the sewer service, storm drain and detection cisterns, electrical power and communications network.
North Bridge, a pedestrian walkway connecting the future academic plaza to Heller Drive, will also be renovated and updated by Granite.
Granite Area Manager Penn Shortes said: “This is one of two campus projects designed to increase student enrolment while minimizing impacts to the local housing market. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Swinerton and UCSC on their Kresge campus renewal project.”
Construction on the project is set to commence this month and will get over by early 2022. Felton Facility will provide materials for the construction of the project.
Separately, Granite secured a $12m contract from the County of Madera in Oakhurst, California for the Oakhurst Midtown Connector project.
The project will include the construction of a new two-lane road that will connect State Route 41 with Indian Springs Road/High School Road in Oakhurst. The new road will reduce traffic congestion from Highway 41 to Road 426.

Construction of the new road is underway and will be completed by spring 2022.
