Granite, a US-based infrastructure company, has secured the Child Project 6 (CP6) portion of the construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) for the Cosumnes Bridge Replacement Project by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in Sacramento County, California.

The contract won by Granite is part of a phased seven-part delivery for a project worth $167m and the company’s share in the contract is worth $63m.

Located on State Route (SR) 99, in Elk Grove, the Cosumnes Bridge Replacement Project will include the removal and replacement of four bridges over the Cosumnes River.

It also includes the replacement of two existing railroad overhead and underpass bridges with a single new overhead bridge, requiring partial realignment of SR 99 southbound.

The CP6 is a segment of the overall project which has been subdivided into seven contracts to let the construction proceed while the design is being completed on other improvements.

The segment is claimed to allow the project to be delivered in a speedy manner, which is presently one year ahead of the owner’s anticipated timeline.

Being the sixth project for Granite, the scope of the project includes the removal and replacement of the two existing Cosumnes River bridges over the main river and overflow sections.

The construction materials for the project will be supplied by Granite’s Bradshaw Facility. The construction could begin this month and is expected to be completed in October 2022.

Granite regional vice president Carter Rohrbough said: “The Granite team continues to work alongside the Caltrans design and field teams with the shared focus on achieving the project goals.

“We look forward to our continued collaboration with Caltrans on the successful and safe completion of this critical infrastructure.”

In May, the company was selected by Caltrans for the Child Project 4 (CP4) portion of the CM/GC contract of the Cosumnes Bridge Replacement Project.
