Granite has secured an approximately $14m traffic flow improvement project in Santa Barbara, California.

The project was awarded by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

It is a ‘parallel project’ to the Highway 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara suite of projects, which the company is delivering via the collaborative Construction Manager General Contractor (CMGC) project delivery mode.

The traffic flow improvement project is being funded by the Regional Surface Transportation Program.

The contract amount is expected to be included in the company’s fourth quarter CAP.

This project will require Granite to build two roundabouts in the heart of Montecito’s lower village.

Situated where busy frontage and arterial roads intersect with freeway ramps, the roundabouts will enhance the traffic flow for residents and businesses.

The company’s Gardner Facility will supply around 2,500t of hot mix asphalt (HMA).

All the pavement and hardscape removed from the project will be recycled by the company for use on its CMGC corridor projects.

Granite vice president for regional operations Larry Camilleri said: “These intersections are the gateway to Montecito and on the route to two nearby schools, so the improved traffic flow will be a real improvement for folks.

“This project fulfils commitments made to the City of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County to improve mobility not only on the freeway, but on local roads throughout the Highway 101 corridor.”

The project, which is underway, is expected to finish in December next year.
