GMI Construction has been chosen as the main contractor for Scarborough Group International’s (SGI) £9.2m five-level multi-storey travel hub at Thorpe Park, Leeds, UK.

It is the second major construction project for the company on the site this year.

The site will also feature a new £52m, pre-let Grade A office building that is slated to be finished by autumn.

SGI is advancing the second phase development at Thorpe Park Leeds.

The mixed-use project is situated at Junction 46 of the M1 that serves as a business destination with more than 900,000ft2 of office space, a hotel and amenities already constructed.

Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher (CJCT) is serving as the architect of the 125,495 ft2 travel hub project, which will feature 442 parking spaces, with 10% supporting EV charging and 5% being accessible for disabled users.

A part of the ground floor will be earmarked for workspace, retail or leisure, with units facing onto Thorpe Park Approach.

SGI development director Adam Varley said: “The construction of the new active travel hub will support better urban mobility and provide a platform for the continued expansion of Thorpe Park Leeds. The active travel hub project is slated for completion in autumn to align with the office scheme being constructed opposite.
