The Western Australian (WA) Government has appointed construction company Georgiou Group as the preferred contractor for the first stage of works on the Ocean Reef Marina redevelopment project.

The project is said to be the largest civil construction landscaping programme carried out by DevelopmentWA, the state government’s central development agency.

This contract carries a value of $107m and will generate more than 150 jobs.

The scope of this project involves the development of the first coastal pool in Perth with a central recreational hub and a 150m family-friendly beach comprising shark net protection.

The coastal pool is anticipated to open in 2026.

Additionally, this project will provide public open spaces such as a pedestrian promenade along the water’s edge, play areas, a scooter park, and public facilities, including changing rooms, toilets, and shade structures.

The initial stage of construction also comprises the development of 68 single-family housing units and three apartment sites.

Upon completion, the Ocean Reef Marina project will see the construction of more than 1,000 new housing units, including single-residential homes and apartments.

It will also provide residents, visitors, and tourists with approximately 12,000m² of retail and commercial floor space and more than 5ha of communal area.

WA Premier Roger Cook said: “This iconic development will become one of our city’s most popular destinations for recreational pursuits and boating, with Perth’s first coastal pool, a family beach within the protection of the marina, capacity for up to 550 boat pens, 200 boat stackers, boat ramps and trailer parking.

“Civil works will now begin on Perth’s first coastal pool, which will be a significant tourism drawcard for Ocean Reef and Western Australia.”
