Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center breaks ground on cancer centre in New Jersey

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) has broken ground on a five-storey, 137,000ft2 cancer center at its Livingston Campus in New Jersey, US.

The $225m outpatient facility will act as the northern hub for the integrated oncology services provided by RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Construction of the facility is slated for completion in 2025.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center president and CEO Richard L. Davis: "The new Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center will be a regional destination for cancer care, building on the medical center's longstanding legacy of clinical expertise and compassionate, patient-centered diagnosis and treatment."

The new centre will provide medical, surgical, and radiation oncology services.

It will offer holistic support services including a wig and prosthetic studio, teaching kitchen, and yoga, reiki, and music therapy.

The cancer centre will feature private infusion rooms and a garden terrace.

Among the other amenities to be provided include short-term and extended -stay treatment areas.

The new centre's construction is part of the expansion of oncology services offered by RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

CBMC board of trustees chairman Bruce Schonbraun said: "We applaud the Cooperman Family Foundation for their longstanding support of our hospital and our entire community.

"Their extraordinary and selfless generosity has enabled this facility to expand its footprint and attract world-class physicians to bring the best healthcare available to northern New Jersey."

The partnership between the medical centre with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey will enable patients to gain access to advanced treatment options, including immunotherapy, blood and marrow transplantation, CAR T-cell therapy.
