Construction work has begun of the new $19m Peterson Ridge Station in Chicago, Illinois, US.
The new station will have a glass and masonry warming house with side canopies and metal roof; two shelters with on-demand heating; heated concrete stairs and ADA-compliant ramps; and two six-car platforms.
An access drive with a turnaround and ADA pick-up/drop-off; a plaza with associated landscaping and irrigation system and parking for bicycles will also be included.
Peterson Ridge Station will also feature five ADA parking spaces and 44 pay parking spaces along the Ravenswood Avenue, as well as reworked traffic signals at the station entrance.
The project will also involve $3m additional work to renovate the bridges constructed over Peterson and Ridge avenues.

By GlobalDataThe Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is providing $15m funding for the project, while the remaining $7m is being funded by Federal Transit Administration.
Construction company John Burns Construction Company has been appointed for the construction work of the Peterson Ridge, which is anticipated to be completed in around 18 months.
Furthermore, the project work is expected to create approximately 150 jobs.
Illinois Transportation secretary Omer Osman said: “Providing safe and reliable transportation options, improving connections to jobs and enhancing quality of life – that’s how the Illinois Department of Transportation and our partners are working together to rebuild Illinois.”
