Hallstahammar Municipality in Sweden has selected Finland-based technical solutions provider Caverion as the lead contractor for the Vallmobadet swimming hall renovation project.

Since the commencement of renovations in early 2022, the Vallmobadet building has been shut.

Hallstahammar Municipality’s officials decided to repair and retain as much of the old building as possible rather than simply demolish it.

Caverion Sweden head Uno Lundberg said: “It is important for us at Caverion to work sustainably. In Vallmobadet, for example, this means maintaining the core and structure of the property while installing new technology that is energy efficient.”

Hallstahammar technical administration property department project manager Anders Allöv added: “The major measures take place behind the scenes. For example, automation will be used to control the pools so that the water temperature is even, chemicals for purification are dosed accordingly, and the staff have an improved working environment.”

The building is the first structure to be included in the municipality’s planned energy-saving restoration project for its assets and facilities.

The municipality intends to minimise energy and maintenance expenditures throughout the process.

Design works were concluded in early 2022, with implementation of the contract underway until it is finalised.

The swimming hall is expected to open in September 2024.

Earlier in July this year, Caverion was hired by Finland’s national electricity transmission grid operator Fingrid to rebuild its power lines in the North Ostrobothnia region of the country.
