Blackstone and Hudson Pacific Properties have announced plans to build a new film and TV studios in the UK.

The companies have acquired a 91-acre site in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, for £120m through a joint venture and are expected to invest more than £700m to build what they claim to be one of the largest films and television studio campuses in the world.

Located 27.36km north of central London, the new film, TV and digital production centre will be the partners’ first expansion of their Sunset Studios platform outside the US.

Hudson Pacific stated that the development is subject to planning permission and is anticipated to create more than 4,500 permanent jobs.

It is also estimated to contribute nearly £300m per year to the local economy of Broxbourne.

Blackstone and Hudson Pacific already jointly own a 3.5million ft2 of media portfolio that include 35 active sound stages, onsite creative offices and development rights.

Hudson Pacific chairman and CEO Victor Coleman said: “We are thrilled to expand our Sunset Studios platform in the UK, a global hub for film and television production.

“With our expertise developing and operating state-of-the-art media campuses and Blackstone’s resources and existing market presence, we are confident this facility will be in high demand from leading content creators.

“We look forward to working with Broxbourne Council to ensure the project has a meaningful positive impact on the local community.”

Recently, the partners have announced plans to develop a fully entitled, purpose-built studio facility in Sun Valley, California.

The facility, named Sunset Glenoaks Studios, will be part of the Sunset Studios brand family that includes three existing studios in Hollywood—Sunset Gower Studios, Sunset Bronson Studios and Sunset Las Palmas Studios.
