A consortium comprising Belgian construction firm BESIX Group, Six Construct and TGCC has received a contract to design and build the 250m-tall Bank of Africa Tower in Morocco.
The project is being developed by FinanceCom Group’s subsidiary O TOWER and is set to become one of the tallest buildings in Morocco.
BESIX and its partners will commence work month supported by China Railway Construction Corporation International (CRCCI). Work is scheduled to be completed by 30 May 2022.
The tower will have 55 floors, including a luxury hotel, offices and apartments. The structure is also expected to have a viewing terrace at the top.
The design was prepared by architects Rafael de la Hoz and Hakim Benjelloun.
BESIX Group’s CEO Rik Vandenberghe said: “The Bank of Africa Tower will be an emblematic building for the country. I am proud to see BESIX participating in its construction in Morocco, where it has been a pleasure to work in recent years. By GlobalDataThe tower will be certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold and High-Quality Environmental (HQE) for meeting international green building standards.
The Bank of Africa Tower is being developed as part of the Bouregreg Valley Development Project, which is part of a modernisation programme known as Rabat Ville Lumière, Capitale Marocaine de la Culture. The programme was undertaken by Morocco to modernise the city of Rabat and comprises major structural urban initiatives, including the Grand Théâtre de Rabat, and the Maison des Arts et de la Culture.
Other projects taken up by BESIX in the Middle East in the past include the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Four Seasons Hotel in Manama, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Méridien Hotel and Nile City complex in Cairo.
