Fingal County Council in the Republic of Ireland has chosen BAM Civil as the contractor for the Ongar-Barnhill Road scheme, with the ceremonial sod-turning event planned for this week.

The council will fund approximately €20m for this project and works will begin this month with a two-year construction programme.

This new transportation corridor is expected to increase accessibility for sustainable and active travel modes in this rapidly growing area.

It will also help Fingal’s continuous commitment to facilitating the development of new housing by offering access to residentially designated properties in the surrounding region.

Roughly 1,200 new residences will be built, with plans to develop parks and commercial buildings as part of the development.

The project will extend from Barnwell Roundabout to Barberstown Lane South Road and include approximately 1.8km of road, footpath, and bicycle amenity space.

This project includes a new bridge crossing over the Dunboyne railway line, which is considered to be the key component of the development.

Fingal County Council approved the Barnhill Local Area Plan in February 2019.

The Ongar-Barnhill Road proposal also includes walking and cycling connections to the Royal Canal Greenway. It is intended to supplement the forthcoming Dart+ West service, which will further boost the local sustainable and Active Travel network.
