Irish property development firm Ballymore has submitted a planning application for a mixed-use development UNEX-Thames Road Industrial Estate in London, the UK.

The plans seek to create up to 1,610 new homes on the 6.1-ha site located on the riverfront in London’s Royal Docks.

It will include taller blocks of between 15-to-18 storeys, lower blocks of six-to-nine storeys as well as three-storey townhouses.

In addition to the new homes, the project will also include light industrial and commercial space and a two-form entry primary school.

It may also feature a major new public park along the river, outdoor pool, a gym, tennis court, café and rooftop running track.

The plan is designed by Glenn Howells Architects and HAL architects.

If approved, construction work on the new mixed-use development will begin in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027.

The company stated that the site is now occupied by a scrap yard, a concrete batching plant and many industrial warehouses.

In the Newham Local Plan 2018, the site was identified as suitable for the development of mixed-use project.

Ballymore Group managing director John Mulryan said: “We look forward to continuing the regeneration story of this area of London as we have been able to define much of Newham’s riverfront through our Royal Wharf and Riverscape developments.

“As well as providing much-needed new homes for London, our vision is to create an area that excites and inspires, opening up the riverfront for everyone and forming a vibrant, dynamic and amenity-rich new neighbourhood.”
