A joint venture between Arup and WSP has received contract from Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to provide planning and engineering services for the Link21 programme in the US.

The multi-project initiative is led by the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) and Bart.

It aims to transform the passenger rail network serving the 21-county Northern California Megaregion into a better-connected system.

Under the contract, the JV will be responsible for providing planning and engineering services for Link21’s New Transbay Rail Crossing that will connect Oakland and San Francisco through a new rail service across the San Francisco Bay.

The new transbay passenger rail connection will help to reduce congestion in the existing Transbay corridor and provide a direct connection for regional rail riders.

It will also enable comfortable drive between the Sacramento Area and downtown San Francisco, the Northern San Joaquin Valley, the Peninsula, and the South Bay.
