Architecture company Mecanoo has announced the opening of the Het Hof van Nederland Museum (The Court of the Netherlands) in Dordrecht, The Netherlands.
The company was responsible for converting the monumental court complex into a museum experience, which explores Dutch cultural heritage.

The 2,339m² Het Hof van Nederland is located in the city centre of Dordrecht. The historical building structure features internally connected buildings located around a subdued square.
Het Hof is connected to the old city in every direction with the help of four entrance gates.
The courtyard will be used by citizens as a shortcut through the town.
Mecanoo considered the building itself as the main museum piece in restoring the monument.

By GlobalDataTogether with Dordrecht City Council, the company sought design solutions that would allow visitors to experience the origins of the country, as well as the city’s history.
As part of the project, Mecanoo brought the cultural heritage back to its original state and carefully designed interventions that have been implemented to transform the building into a museum.
The building complex features a combination of exhibitions and multimedia presentations, in addition to education and study rooms, offices, café, shop and plant room.
The project, which commenced in 2012, completed in 2015.
