The top five companies accounted for 24% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Sika filed the most 3D printing patents within the construction industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 6 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 1 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Sany Group with 5 3D printing patent filings, Saudi Arabian Oil (4 filings), and DXC Technology (3 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 28% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the construction industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 28%, followed by the US (20%) and Japan (9%). The share represented by China was 10% lower than the 38% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
