Arabtec’s subsidiary Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company (EFECO) has won a joint venture contract to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services at the Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal Building.
Under the $239m (AED878m) contract, EFECO will work in collaboration with BK Gulf and China State, while the Arbatec subsidiary will be responsible for delivering the complex mechanical scope of the project.
Arabtec managing director and CEO Hasan Abdullah Ismaik said that this new contract win adds to EFECO’s backlog, which has already crossed the AED1bn ($272m) mark.
"We also have a strong aspiration to develop the company into a global leader in the MEP sector, and we have the right senior management, with some of the best talent in the industry, to grow the business and maximise shareholder value," Ismaik said.
Claimed to be one of the foremost strategic infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi, the 700,000m² terminal building can house about 65 aircraft, including the airbus A380, with an anticipated annual passenger capacity of 30 million.
The check-in unit at the terminal will have 165 conventional counters and 48 self-service kiosks that can handle 8,500 passengers, both arriving and departing every hour.
