Bam has started enabling works for a new advanced manufacturing centre for Unilever at the firm’s Port Sunlight site in Birkenhead, UK.
The production plant is expected to cover 6,500m² area and has been scheduled for completion by 2017.

Once developed, the facility will house a pilot plant, which will be equipped with advanced technologies and allow Unilever scientists and engineers to test new ideas during personal care and home care product development on a factory scale.
Besides enabling works, Bam has also been assigned a two-stage design and build contract for the £24m facility, which has been designed by DLA Architects.
Unilever Port Sunlight site leader Cameron Jones said: "From here we will have the capacity to innovate products with increased speed and efficiency, which we will turn into winning products to be enjoyed by tens of millions both here and around the world."
The new development is expected to complement existing and new facilities including the £23m materials innovation factory at the University of Liverpool, which is presently under construction.

By GlobalDataBam is also responsible for development of the Liverpool centre, which will facilitate for initial research and development of the Unilever products and is expected to be opened in early 2017.
Further development of the consumer products are likely to be carried out at the Port Sunlight advanced manufacturing plant by Unilever.
