Plans designed by well-known architect Zaha Hadid for a $300m tower on Collins Street has secured approval from the Victorian government in Australia.
The 54-storey skyscraper will feature 420 apartments, more than 10,000m² of office and retail space, and over 600m² of publicspaces, including an art gallery on the ground floor. The resitential areas will be a mix of one, two, and three bedroom apartments.
The building will resemble a vase, tapering inward at the base.
During the application process, the height of the building was reduced from 185.5m to 176m to prevent overshadowing of the Yarra’s north bank.
The approval was backed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, the City of Melbourne and the Office of Victorian Government Architect.
