UK-based McAvoy Group has received an £8.2m contract to design and construct a new entry-free primary school for Concordia Academy in Romford, UK.

To be operated by REAch2 Academy Trust, the 2,972m² facility is a three-form property with a capacity for 630 and an offsite design.

Funding for the school will be provided by the Department for Education through the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

McAvoy’s offsite solution created the potential for the development of a constrained brownfield site.

Expected to be completed within 12 months, the new building will be located 1.5m from the site boundary to the front elevation.

McAvoy Group construction director Raymond Millar said: “We will be using the latest advances in education design and offsite construction to create an inspiring environment for teaching and learning, and an outstanding school to help every child realise their highest aspirations.

“It offers the opportunity for increased value for money, greater quality control and programme benefits because the construction work can progress offsite in the factory while groundworks are put in place on site."

"We will be using the latest advances in education design and offsite construction to create an inspiring environment for teaching and learning, and an outstanding school to help every child realise their highest aspirations."

The new facility will include 14 classrooms, a music and drama studio, main and small hall, kitchen, activity room, small rooms for group learning, staff room, as well as administration offices.

Designed to be flexible, the teaching spaces will enable adaptation of future curriculum delivery or technology advances.

The building is designed in a way to offer maximum external play space within the site, along with garden, games and informal outdoor learning areas.

McAvoy has provided the academy with interim school buildings until the opening of the building in September next year.
