Granite has secured an approximately $30m construction contract for several design-build enhancements at East Tongue Point near Astoria, Oregon, the US.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will fund the project, which will deliver facilities to house the Homeporting of two Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters (FRCs).

The new FRCs feature many enhancements, including a stabilised 25-mm machine gun mount, four crew-served .50-caliber machine guns, and improved response times with at least top speed of 28 knots.
This order is expected to be featured in Granite’s fourth quarter CAP.
The project will commence later this year and is anticipated to finish by June 2025.
The facilities include a fixed pier, two floating docks, gangways between floating docks and pier, cutter shore tie utilities on the pier, underground utilities on shore, new pavement and parking, and a security fence around the site.

Granite VP for regional operations Curt Haldeman said: “This facility is critical to the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) mission to replace the 1980s-era patrol boats with the new FRC vessels, and the addition of these new patrol boats will strengthen the local maritime economy in Astoria.
“This contract represents a strategic win in the Pacific Northwest region and furthers our relationship with DHS and the USCG. The first FRC will arrive in Astoria at the updated East Tongue Point facility, which is currently expected to be delivered to the USCG in June 2024.”
