Swedish construction and civil engineering firm Peab has secured a contract worth $12.7m (SEK109m) from Skiab Invest to construct 42 apartments in Åre.

The new apartments will be built in three buildings located adjacent to Åre Björnen in the Sadel area.

These buildings will be four- to five-storeys and will make up the tenant-owner association Sadelbyn 7.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence this month with occupation planned for November 2022.

The construction company is already working on an ongoing project with Sadelbyn 5-6 in Åre.

Peab region manager Fredrik Timan said: “We’re happy for the opportunity to continue to develop Åre and to do it together with Skiab. This is a growing community and it feels good to contribute to this positive development with more housing.

“By collaborating with our civil engineering colleagues, our subcontractors and our suppliers we can use local resources and competence to make this project locally produced.”

In a separate development, the company won a $20.98m (SEK180m) contract from Fastica Åkersberga to construct Maxi ICA Stormarknad, a new shopping centre in Åkersberga north of Stockholm.

Work on the project involves construction of a new shopping centre for Ica along with groundwork and parking. It also includes demolition of an existing building on the property.

Construction work on the new facility is expected to be completed in March 2023.

Additionally, Peab will be responsible for the preparatory work for the future construction of a three-storey office building.

Recently, the company has also been commissioned by AB Karlskronahem to construct rental apartments at Pantarholmen in Karlskrona.
