UK-based Interserve Construction has been awarded a contract worth £130m by the Welsh Government to revamp the Prince Charles Hospital in Wales.
The scope of work under the contract will involve the renovation work to the ground and first floors of the hospital, which is located in Merthyr Tydfil.

The refurbishment is aimed at improving patient care as well as the working environment for staff by creating a modern and efficient healthcare setting.
Construction the project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Interserve said that the hospital will remain operational during the refurbishment.
The departments which will benefit from the refurbishment include operating theatres, critical care, radiology and outpatients’ services.

By GlobalDataCwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board CEO Paul Mears said: “We are really delighted to have received this funding from Welsh Government.
“The redevelopment of Prince Charles Hospital is a key priority for the health board in ensuring we can deliver high-quality care for the local community and an improved environment for our staff to work in.”
The construction company will work with the project partners to create many apprenticeships for people, who are involved in the refurbishment work and to also boost the local economy and jobs market.
Wales health minister Vaughan Gething said: “This is a substantial investment which will enhance patient care and the working environment at the hospital.
“The hospital provides vital care for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg area and beyond, especially for a number of residents of Powys.
“Alongside the many health and wellbeing benefits this funding will bring, it will also provide an economic boost for the community through local labour and sub-contractors.”
