The global construction industry noticed a 6.6% drop in IT hiring activity in June 2022 over the previous month, led by Honeywell International’s 12.26% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6.44% when compared with May 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.73% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in June 2022, up 0.01% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2022 were 4.91% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 13.97% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 40.34% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in June 2022, a 12.8% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 28.31% in June 2022, down 7.23% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 13.11% share in June 2022, a decline of 8.35% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.69% share in June 2022 and a drop of 18.36% over May 2022.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in June 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 15.75% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during June 2022 over May 2022.

Honeywell International posted 667 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a rise of 20.18% over the previous month, followed by CDM Smith with 289 jobs and a 7125% growth. Komatsu with 233 IT jobs and General Electric with 175 jobs, recorded a 25.08% decline and a 37.05% drop, respectively, while Jones Lang LaSalle recorded a 6.25% drop with 150 job postings during June 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in June 2022 with a 52.12% share, which marked a 13.54% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 23.31%, registering a 1.93% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 22.49% share and a 19.22% drop over May 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.21% and a month-on-month rise of 46.67%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.86%, registering a 9.3% increase over the previous month.
