The global food service industry noticed an 8.5% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by McDonald’s 21.7% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food service industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.8% when compared with July 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.2% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, up 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 4.87% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 13.37% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food service IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.83% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in August 2021, a 19.15% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.15% in August 2021, up 50% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.74% share in August 2021, a decline of 6.9% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.55% share in August 2021 and a rise of 6.67% over July 2021.

Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 71.43% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

McDonald’s posted 46 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 130% over the previous month, followed by Starbucks with 34 jobs and a 25.93% growth. Compass Group with 27 IT jobs and Greene King with 21 jobs, recorded a 58.82% growth and a 90.91% rise, respectively, while Chick-fil-A recorded a 77.78% rise with 16 job postings during August 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in August 2021 with an 80.19% share, which marked a 44.07% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 16.51%, registering a 33.96% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 3.3% share and a 133.33% rise over July 2021.
