The new development forms part of broader efforts to enhance military infrastructure in Poland under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between Poland and the US.
The APOD facility at Wrocław-Strachowice will serve as a logistics base for receiving and handling military personnel, equipment and materials.
It is one of four logistics bases planned for construction in Poland to support the presence of the USAF.
Under the terms of the agreement, PORR will undertake a range of construction tasks at the airport.
These include developing an aircraft parking apron with four stands designed for C-5 Galaxy transport aircraft, and a second apron with three stands for C-130 Hercules aircraft.
The contractor will also build the connecting taxiways, a dedicated military fire station building and an airport duty technician facility.
The contract specifies a project duration of 33 months.
Upon completion, the military airport infrastructure will undergo certification as part of the existing international airport, with full operational readiness for military aircraft expected by 2029.
PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “PORR has decades of experience in the design and construction of buildings and infrastructure in the security sector, as well as airport infrastructure itself.
“With this project, it is once again demonstrating its expertise in delivering complex infrastructure developments of strategic importance.
“As a reliable partner, PORR is implementing a key project to strengthen national security and economic development in Poland.”
In August 2026, X-FAB commissioned PORR to design and construct a new semiconductor manufacturing facility at its site in Erfurt, Germany. The agreement includes responsibility for both the design and building of the new plant.
