It is part of the wider West Link initiative, which aims to strengthen rail connections and improve commuter access throughout Gothenburg.

Korsvägen station is set to become one of three underground stations incorporated in the West Link project.

Alongside the station construction, the contract also includes the installation of technical systems.

Located in the heart of the city, the site is expected to become a major public transport hub.

Upon completion, the station will enhance access to notable destinations, including Liseberg amusement park, the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, and Universeum science museum.

According to the project outline, these improvements are intended to expand rail capacity and promote more sustainable travel in the region.

Implenia Civil Engineering division head Erwin Scherer said: “This undertaking is a strong addition to our portfolio of large-scale infrastructure projects in the Nordics and demonstrates our capability to deliver solutions for complex challenges in urban transportation. We look forward to working with Trafikverket to successfully realise Korsvägen station.”

Implenia was selected following a competitive tender process where Trafikverket assessed bids on efficient project start-up, organisational structure and logistics.

In 2024, the company was also selected to build another section of the West Link, including a rail tunnel and the new underground Haga station.

Construction at Korsvägen will be carried out in a densely populated urban area, requiring careful planning and close coordination.

Implenia has indicated it will use established construction methods in combination with digital tools for efficient and safe execution.

The project will be delivered under an execution contract, with an emphasis on resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The West Link project aims to increase train frequency, reduce travel times and offer more direct routes for passengers, contributing to the region’s wider goal of supporting economic growth and sustainable urban development.

In April, PPMS Immobilien awarded Implenia a contract exceeding €200m ($230m) to design and construct a turnkey police headquarters in Münster, Germany.
